WABI SABI
"Wabi Sabi" is a 14x9" piece made with prismacolor pencils, Faber-Castell PITT Markers, and Uniball Gold ink pen, on paper.
"Wabi Sabi" is depicts a fish along with the Japanese characters for Wabi Sabi (侘寂), and Impermanence (無常 - Mujō). In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. It is prevalent in many forms of Japanese art.
Early in my career as an artist I was deeply inspired by this concept, and this piece reflects my interpretation of it. The Fish is of a nondescript species. Its scales are different shapes and sizes, and they don't all fall in order. The tail has a thick black line struck through it. This piece embraces the imperfection of the natural world. Imperfection is a fact of life, as is impermanence. Nothing is meant to last forever.
This is a 13x8.5" Giclee digital print, backed and bagged for shipping. Yea, you get a baby Osprey with this one too.
