This is the 1st of a series of 4 pieces I’m doing in 2025. With a thematic focus on the inherent scarcity that exists in Florida as a direct result of human interference, this project reflects the active demise of Florida’s native and endemic species at large. The project captures the fast-approaching reality that these animals and their habitat may soon be gone, and will serve as a memory for a potential future where they have in fact gone extinct. The project intends to serve as a call to action, so that the memorials depicted by the artwork do not become reality.

The American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) is a species of crocodilian found in the Neotropics. It is the most widespread of the four extant species of crocodiles from the Americas, with populations present from South Florida, the Caribbean islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, and the coasts of Mexico to as far south as Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.
